Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic who is also a public speech writer. She founded Feminist Frequency which is a website which features video and posts discussing the depictions of females in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American journalist and critic that has received awards for her work, is a feminist blogger. She is the author and executive director of Feminist Frequency an educational, non-profit website which explores representations of women in popular media narratives. Dispelling stereotypes of women is her primary goals. However, Sarkeesian also explores the issue of specifically targeted harassment online against women as well as other communities who have been left out. With a master's in social and political thought from York University Sarkeesian is also an extremely sought-after public presenter and has presented talks at the TEDxWomen XOXO festival and the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. Interested in issues concerning gender and feminism since at an early age, she created her own website Feminist Frequency in 2009 while she was still at university. She was a young woman who wanted to create the series of videos on the internet to examine the how gender is represented in video games. However, she became victimized by online harassment. But the harassment did not discourage her. She was only able to strengthen her position as a journalist who is feminist. As a result of the many accomplishments she's made to feminist movements, she has been recognized with numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her work as a critic of the media, and she founded Feminist Frequency. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit organization that investigates women's representation in popular culture of today.
